80s Apartment: An Interior Designer's Perspective
As an interior designer, I've had the pleasure of working with clients who have a deep affection for the 80s. The decade's bold colors, statement furniture, and eclectic decor have made it a staple in many people's hearts. In this blog post, I'll share my perspective on designing an 80s-inspired apartment, from window treatments to smart home technology.
When designing an 80s-inspired apartment, it's essential to start with a clear vision. For this project, I worked with a client who wanted to create a space that was both nostalgic and modern. We began by selecting a bold, bright color scheme that would set the tone for the entire apartment.
One of my favorite design elements in this apartment is the use of window treatments. We opted for floor-to-ceiling curtains in a vibrant orange hue, which adds a pop of color and creates a cozy atmosphere. To balance out the boldness of the curtains, we chose a neutral paint color for the walls, which provides a clean backdrop for the rest of the design.
When it comes to furniture, the 80s are all about making a statement. We selected a few key pieces, including a sleek, low-profile sofa in a bold red color and a pair of oversized, curved armchairs. To add some texture and depth to the space, we incorporated a mix of patterns and materials, including velvet, linen, and wood.
Another essential element in this apartment is lighting. We chose a combination of table lamps, floor lamps, and string lights to create a warm, inviting glow. To add some industrial chic to the space, we incorporated metal and glass fixtures, which also help to reflect light and make the space feel larger.
One of the most significant challenges in designing an 80s-inspired apartment is finding a balance between nostalgia and modernity. To achieve this, we incorporated a mix of vintage and modern pieces, including a vintage rug and a modern coffee table. We also added some industrial design elements, such as exposed brick and metal beams, to give the space a more urban feel.
As an interior designer, I believe that sustainability is essential in any design project. To incorporate sustainable design elements into this apartment, we chose eco-friendly materials and products, such as recycled glass and low-VOC paint. We also opted for energy-efficient appliances and smart home technology to reduce the apartment's carbon footprint.
